Heartworm disease is a serious disease that results in severe lung disease, heart failure, other organ damage, and death in pets, mainly dogs. It is caused by a parasitic worm called Dirofilaria immitis. The worms are spread through the bite of a mosquito. Help protect your dog from heartworm disease with a monthly medication.

Even if your yard is sprayed for mosquitos or you have other ways to protect from them, it does not cover your dog completely. Heartworm disease is fatal if untreated. To treat the disease costs up to $1000 and some dogs do not survive the treatment. We at DFW Pug Rescue take this so seriously that to adopt one of our dogs you must sign a contract to which you agree that you will keep your pug on prevention treatment monthly.

The best treatment is prevention. Let’s all keep our pets healthy and happy by staying informed and being proactive.
